Exploring your beliefs, values, hopes & sources of strength, wherever they come from
When find ourselves with questions reaching beyond the practical & into the deeper parts of our experience.
Following bereavement, significant life transitions, illness, relationship changes, or personal challenges, many people begin to reflect on meaning, purpose, faith, identity, and what truly matters to them.
The Lantern of Meaning represents those moments of reflection. It offers a place to explore your beliefs, values, hopes, and sources of strength, whether these come from faith, spirituality, relationships, nature, personal philosophy, or life experience.
You do not need to have religious beliefs to visit this part of the roadmap. Together, we can gently explore the questions that arise when life feels uncertain and help you reconnect with what guides you forward.
You may find yourself wondering:
Why has this happened?
How do I make sense of what I’ve experienced?
What gives my life meaning now?
Where do I find hope when things feel dark?
Has my faith or world view changed?
How do I live with uncertainty?
What values do I want to carry forward?
How do I stay connected to the person I’ve lost?
Who am I becoming after this experience?
A Space for Faith, Spirituality, and Meaning
My counselling training was completed through Waverley Abbey College, where I studied counselling within a professional and ethical framework while also engaging in theological reflection and considering human experience through a Christian perspective.
Part of this training involved exploring my own beliefs, values, and spiritual journey alongside learning how to work respectfully and effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, faiths, and world views. This experience deepened my appreciation for the role that faith, spirituality, and meaning can play in people’s lives, particularly during times of grief, loss, and transition.
I am also a registered member of the Association of Christians in Counselling and Linked Professions (ACC), a professional body that supports counsellors and psychotherapists committed to ethical practice, professional development, and high standards of client care.
For Christian clients, counselling can provide a space where faith is welcomed as part of your story. If you wish, we can explore how your beliefs, church experiences, prayer life, relationship with God, or spiritual questions connect with the challenges you are facing.
For those from other faith traditions, spiritual paths, or no faith at all, you are equally welcome. Counselling is led by your needs, values, and beliefs. My role is not to promote any particular world view, but to provide a safe, compassionate, and respectful space where you can explore what gives your life meaning, purpose, strength, and hope.
The Lantern
The lantern on the roadmap is not tied to any one faith or belief system. Instead, it represents the light we often seek during difficult times: hope, meaning, wisdom, connection, and guidance.
Sometimes that light comes from faith. Sometimes it comes from loved ones, personal values, nature, community, or a growing understanding of ourselves. Whatever form it takes, counselling can provide space to explore and strengthen the things that help illuminate the path ahead.
Helpful Resources
Every person's experience is unique, but understanding what you're experiencing can often make it feel a little less overwhelming. The resources below explain some of the ideas and models I regularly use in counselling and psychotherapy to help people understand grief, loss, emotional wellbeing, and life transitions. You may find these helpful alongside this article:
Together, these guides form part of My Therapy Roadmap; a collection of practical resources designed to help you better understand yourself and navigate grief, loss and life's many transitions at your own pace.
My Approach

As a qualified NCPS Accredited Registrant and ACC counsellor and psychotherapist, I support adults navigating grief, loss and life transitions, including bereavement, relationship changes, menopause, pregnancy and infant loss, pet bereavement, caring responsibilities, retirement, anxiety, depression, burnout, and the emotional impact of life-changing health diagnoses and long-term health conditions. I offer counselling from my private therapy cabin in Littlehampton, West Sussex, walk and talk therapy in nature, and secure online counselling across the UK, so together we can find an approach that feels safe, comfortable and right for you.
Alongside counselling, I often draw upon psycho-educational resources and practical tools that can help bring understanding to experiences that may otherwise feel confusing or overwhelming. Together, we can work towards understanding your grief and finding a way forward that feels meaningful and authentic to you.
